the two types of creators that exist
For as long as I can remember, the creator landscape has been a constant , evolution through different eras and phases.
Recently, though, I’ve found myself drawn more deeply into this ‘creator bubble’, as I’m someone that’s trying to create a presence in the space myself.
Over the past few months, I’ve researched a variety of creators, educators, and entertainers who inspire me. Through this exploration, I’ve come to a key realization: there are really only two main types of creators.
The materialist creator:
Think Mr.Beast, Drake, Jake Paul, this archetype thrive on metrics, revenue and engagement. They have a passion for what they do, and in most cases, they love it, but a lot of what they do is directed towards the masses.
More emphasis is put towards catering towards the whole, these creators usually find themselves to be in situations where they can’t fully express themselves in their work, often tied to fast moving trends or spectacle, it can get tough to maintain that artistic/creative purpose.
Beginner materialist creators can find metric success pretty fast, I’ve noticed some materialist channels or instagram/TikTok accounts blowing up in a single week with following the right trends & strategies the masses want to see.
The intrinsic creator:
Think PewDiePie, Kendrick Lamar, Casey Neistat, these creators have a more intimate relationship with their audience and their craft, these people don’t usually use creation as their main vehicle
rather it’s an overarching mission or message they are trying to push, and the content is merely just a vessel to get it out in the world.
With that said, this archetype can find it hard to capture attention, especially in the beginning since they thrive with authenticity and experience.
You either love them or hate them.
I’ve observed that for most intrinsic creators the journey can seem daunting, it can take a while, and I’m talking possibly even decades to gain wide-spread attention.
Personally I I like the idea of going deeper with less people, rather than keeping it surface with the masses, I value impact a lot.
This is also more of a tool of expression for me, I genuinely feel better when I put something true to me out in the world, which is why I’d say I identify with the intrinsic.
There are other ‘sub-archetypes’ that exist which I’ll probably make another letter on at some point, but these are the main ‘two’ that I’ve observed.
If you’re a creator yourself - there is no good or bad side, it all depends on your values, and what you want to make out of social media.
So take all of this with a grain of salt, just some observations
& Stay blessed.
